Taoism in the Trees That Surround Us

Walking meditation has been enlightening to say the least. By being mindful of my surroundings, I have been able to recognize the beauty in all of Nature. I love looking at all the different trees and how they grow. Some trees grow in odd shapes but it is not abnormal. The growth of a tree is simply a result of its
surroundings. Similarly with humans, how we grow is affected by the people and forces that act around us. This is a beautiful idea because it goes to show that without the nonbeing, we could not be the beings that we are. This is a strong idea in Taoism.

During a walk the other day, I was coming back from the gym so the endorphins were flowing and I was in a great mood. I was looking around and observing the trees. The shadows of the trees were everywhere. They were lying there on the ground, still as can be. I thought about the day as it passes. Yes, as the Earth rotates, the shadows move but it takes the same path each day. Even while people walk by, they do not disturb the shape or origin of the shadow. Even when storms come through for days at a time, when it;s all over, the shadow continues to follow the same path. Even with all the chaos around, the trees' shadows are loyal to the path in which it follows. This is an essential piece of Taoism and a lot of philosophies in general. Loyalty to the path is something that you need in order to find total enlightenment. Regardless of the negative forces and all the troubles that may come in life, commitment to the path is essential to reaching the final destination.
